A Super Visa is a very special kind of visa that allows permanent residents or Canadian citizens to help their parents or grandparents come to visit them in Canada for long periods of up to 2 years at a time.
Super Visas can be issued for up to 10 years or until the end of the expiration date of the passport of the parent or grandparent.
Canadian sponsors will need to prove that they meet what is called the LICO (Low Income Cut-Off), to demostrate that they will be able to support themselves, their families and the visiting parents or grandparents while they are in Canada.
Parents and grandparents will need to demonstrate medical insurance coverage for a minimum of 1 year in the application, and will need to undergo a medical examination.
The Super Visa is good for parents and grandparents who want to come visit their children and grandchildren in Canada to foster strong family ties. It is great for families that are interested in long periods of temporarily stay in Canada but don’t want to immigrate to Canada permanently and don’t want the hassle of applying for a visa every time that they want to come for a visit to Canada.
